The Candle

Once there was a time, not so long ago
When the roads of fate brought us together
Two people, but with a single goal
To find friendship, support, and stability
In a foreign place, a place where fate had led them
They knew each other but for a short time
But had shared the same joy and sorrow
Felt the same pleasure and pain
In that time, they laughed together
And found solace, if only for a moment
In each other's company
Then, just as easily as fate had introduced them
The winds of mistrust blew away
The bonds of friendship
Like a candle in a storm
So much trust, gone instantly
Like a snowflake on a sunny day
The two went their separate ways
And the pain was mild
But the loss was great
One recognized this, and tried
To mend the broken ties
But the other turned away
Away from the memories and the the mistakes
Away from the past, and from a future
Filled with questions and uncertainty<
A last look and it was over
The candle, locked away in a room
To be forgotten
Just another souvenir of fate
But if our paths should ever cross
And if that door need ever be opened
And that candle ever be found
I've got the key
Do you have a match?
